Lipoma Removal – CO₂ Laser or Fat-Dissolving Injections
Non-surgical options to remove soft fatty lumps with minimal scarring and downtime
To reduce or remove lipomas — benign fatty tumors under the skin — for cosmetic or comfort reasons. Ideal for patients seeking a minimally invasive alternative to traditional surgical excision.
Depending on the size and location, we use one of two methods:
CO₂ laser removal provides immediate reduction, with initial swelling resolving during healing. Fat-dissolving injections produce gradual shrinkage, with visible improvement usually starting around 6 weeks. Larger or deeper lipomas may need multiple sessions.
Treated lipomas are permanently removed, but new ones can develop over time, especially in people with a genetic tendency.
Starts from 1600 kr (see full price list).
20–30 minutes depending on number and size of lipomas
Yes, the aim is to remove the entire lipoma. With CO₂ laser, removal is immediate. With fat-dissolving injections, the lipoma gradually shrinks and may need more than one session for full removal. Recurrence is uncommon but possible, especially if treatment is more conservative in sensitive areas.
CO₂ laser physically removes the lipoma during the procedure, offering instant results. Fat-dissolving injections use a compound to break down fat cells gradually, with visible improvement starting around 6 weeks. Laser offers faster removal, while injections are needle-based, do not require anaesthetic, and can give excellent cosmetic results in visible areas.
CO₂ laser treatment is done under local anaesthetic for comfort. Fat-dissolving injections do not usually require anaesthesia, but you may feel brief stinging or burning at the injection site.
Yes, multiple lipomas can typically be treated in one session, depending on their number, size, and location.
Laser removal leaves a small mark that typically fades over time. Injections avoid a surgical wound, so there is usually no scar, only temporary redness or mild swelling.
For small to medium superficial lipomas, CO₂ laser and injections are less invasive, have shorter recovery, and require no stitches. Surgical excision — which we do not offer at our clinic — may be preferred for very large or deep lipomas. However, recurrence is still possible even after surgery. In selected cases, we also use ultrasound to help distinguish lipomas from other lumps such as sebaceous cysts before deciding on the best treatment.
